COMICS RULE EVERYTHING AROUND ME

OBJECTIVE

The owner at Cape & Cowl Comics loves printing tees. We wanted to capture our love for comics and hip-hop in a tee that a lot of folks could relate to. This idea honestly came about while listening to "C.R.E.A.M." by Wu-Tang at home, my daughter was singing along to the hook but saying "dollar dollar bins y'all" instead of "dollar dollar bills y'all." This immediately made me think of dollar bins at comic shops.

WORK DONE

Client: Cape & Cowl Comics

Role: Creative Direction & Illustration.

With a rough sketch to go off of, this project quickly turned into just fine tuning an idea that the client already had in mind.

PROCESS

The seed was already in my head because my awesomely cute daughter planted it. C.R.E.A.M. was gonna be a fairly easy flip. We combined the Wu logo, the Cape & Cowl logo, and The Bat. It was more a matter of going between hand-lettering or a clean font for "Comics Rule Everything Around Me." We went the font route.

PROCESS(CONT.)

For the back, we had a wide range of ideas. Some of them included incorporating Oakland into the mix (where Cape & Cowl is based) and/or doing another nod to Batman. Instead, we kept it super simple and essentially immortalized my daughter's mistake into a simple quote on the back of the tee in a plain white font.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Listen and pay attention to what my daughter says and does. She always has some cool ideas, lol. Wu-Tang is for the children!
