Panlasa is an exciting new restaurant opening in the Chicago French Market, blending Filipino and Hawaiian flavors. After meeting with owner and chef Roland Floro Calupe, I gained insight into his unique culinary background. A Filipino-American chef from Chicago with years of experience in kitchens and private prep, Roland’s time as a personal chef for Kelly Slater in Hawaii helped expand his palette and deepen his love for both Filipino and Hawaiian cuisine.
The logo I created reflects this cultural fusion, incorporating a taro leaf shaped into a “P” to symbolize both islands. The color palette was carefully chosen to represent the restaurant’s connection to both land and water, mirroring the menu’s essence.
